Bernie Sanders is turning out to be a whole lot more mainstream than most of the so-called experts and pundits in the major American media suggested.
Of course, they are owned by corporations with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo, so that may have something to do with it.
Sanders is saying things that Americans really need to hear, and he is not afraid of offending anyone. After all, he is a concerned American, like so many others. What makes him uncommon is that he is a Senator, and thus holds more public sway than most. Where other prominent politicians in Congress have received some huge compensation for voting this way or that, Sanders has stayed true to putting the best interests of the American people before his own personal interest.
What a novel concept!
In any case, Sanders is making news now by suggesting that Obamacare does not go nearly far enough towards truly giving Americans a quality, universal, affordable healthcare system. I agree with him, and have said this same thing numerous times on this very blog!
What Sanders favors is a "Medicare-for-all" single-payer health care plan that would serve all Americans.
Here are some other points that Sanders made on this subject:
Americans are "spending almost twice as much per capita on health care as do the people of any other country."
"We are the only major country on earth that doesn't guarantee health care to all people as a right and yet we end up spending much more than they do," Sanders said.
"So I do believe that we have to move toward a Medicare for all, single-payer system," he said. "I think it's not going to happen tomorrow, but that certainly should be the goal."
