Wimbledon Update for July 7

So, Federer easily dispatched with Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. The win allows Federer to reach the quarterfinal at Wimbledon for a record 13th time.

In the meantime, number one seed Novak Djokovic is getting a scare at the very least, as he is in a tight contest with South African Kevin Anderson. Right now, they are tied at two sets apiece, with the fifth and deciding set due to be decided when play resumes later today.

There was a bit of other strange news at Wimbledon, as well.

Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic was asked  how he felt as he entered the quarterfinal.

The only problem? Berdych had lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, to Gilles Simon of France.

Berdych asked the reporter to repeat the question, then once it was repeated, he asked if the reporter was trying to make fun of him.

Before things grew overly heated, the next question was asked, and normality was restored, as a disappointed Berdych expressed his disappointment in the straight set loss.

And finally, Australian Nick Kyrgios had an epic meltdown in his loss to Frenchman Richard Gasquet.  At one point, he even essentially stopped playing for an entire game as an apparent protest to an unfavorable call by the umpire.

Australian Olympic hero Dawn Fraser blasted Kygios, suggesting that he tanked the match. However, the eight time medalist (for of them gold) went a bit further than that, saying:

"If they don't like it, go back to where their fathers or parents came from. We don't need them in this country if they act like that."

Kyrgios is now alleging racism behind that comment, and the controversy has exploded into headlines the world over.

Bizarre.
