Two blog entries relating to the Holocaust, and I also ran into this link, which seemed like something worth sharing.
There is a fairly famous picture of a group of Germans who were giving Hitler the straight-arm, Nazi salute. All but one in the picture were doing so, in fact.
The one man who did not in fact is crossing his arms and appears to be looking on skeptically. His name was August Landmesser, and he had reason to be skeptical by that point.
Landmesser joined the Nazi Party in 1931, before Hitler took power. But a few years later, he fell hopelessly in love with a Jewish woman, and they had a daughter together.
Obviously, this did not stand well with the Nazi regime in power. His wife and daughter were taken from him, and he himself faced persecution on charges of dishonoring the race.
He was killed in action during the war, but his story became well-known after.
