Yes, the New York Jets managed to right last season's wrongs and beat the Bills up in Buffalo, avenging their loss in last season's regular season finale, when the Bills managed to defeat the Jets, and dashed their playoff hopes.
For quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, the victory was especially sweet, having been the former quarterback up in Buffalo, before they got rid of him. His fortunes changes for the better, literally and figuratively, with his stint with the Jets, as he almost led them to the playoffs last season, and got himself a hefty contract for this season as a reward. Certainly, he seemed happy in the postgame interview after the game last night.
Fitzpatrick passed for 374 yards as the Jets racked up 493 yards, the most under head coach Bowles' tenure. The Jets dominated time of possession, while the defense held Buffalo in check. Clearly, Matt Forte is paying dividends for Gang Green, and was a solid pickup for them.
One of the relatively few negatives was that Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis was burned by the Bills for an 84-yard touchdown.
Otherwise, this was a positive for New York, as they notch not only their first victory of a promising season, but do so on the road against a division rival that had their number last season.
There were certainly some lapses: a defense that's supposedly one of the best in the league allowing Tyrod Taylor to complete several long distance passes; Brandon Marshall coughing up the ball once and inexplicably failing to catch a perfectly thrown pass; another perfectly thrown pass caught by Eric Decker that went to waste on account of a penalty (I forget exactly what that entailed). To have any kind of a chance at an upset against teams like New England or Arizona, they'll need to keep f-ups like that to a minimum. Having said that, a solid overall effort by Gang Green, and hopefully something they'll be able to build on. If Darrelle Revis can get his mojo back it should be an interesting season.
