A couple of days ago, I posted something about how Trump was accepting a $400 million luxury jet as a gift from Qatar.
It feels outrageous. An obvious and transparent example of the blatant corruption and elitism which Trump and those around him have always exemplified. Yet, the vast majority of the MAGA cult refuses to see this, much less acknowledge it. They want to remain convinced that he is the champion of the middle class that he pretends to be, and which they want to believe he is, regardless of the facts.
Well for once, it feels like this crossed a line even for some prominent MAGA people. Take a look at what influencer Ben Shapiro said:
“I think if we switched the names to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, we’d all be freaking out on the right,” Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro said Monday on his podcast.
Shapiro also linked the potential Qatari deal with other reports of “influence peddling,” like Trump’s cryptocurrency sweepstakes.
“The administration’s policy is too important for this sort of activity,” Shapiro said, emphasizing that he wants Trump to succeed. “President Trump promised to drain the swamp. This is not, in fact, draining the swamp.”
Conservative Laura Loomer came to be well-known during this past election. She often went to extraordinary lengths to defend Trump. But not this time. She was highly critical of Trump accepting such a gift: On Sunday and Monday, she posted numerous anti-Qatar posts on X.
“This is really going to be such a stain on the admin if this is true,” she wrote. “And I say that as someone who would take a bullet for Trump. I’m so disappointed.”
Fox News host Mark Levin shared her post and wrote, “Ditto.”
Nor were they alone among conservative MAGA members to speak out. Some even sounded as outraged as the rest of us, making it clear that this was not merely some harmless "gift."
“This is not a gift” from Qatar, it’s “a bribe,” Batya Ungar-Sargon, who has championed the MAGA movement on CNN and other channels, told Newsmax on Monday afternoon.
National Review contributing editor Andrew McCarthy wrote Monday that accepting the plane is “indefensible,” arguing that “the president and his flacks again demonstrate that they don’t grasp the concepts of constitutional duty and conflicts of interest.” He cited the “Trump family crypto venture” as another example.
Accusing Trump of bribery, conflicts of interest, and not understanding constitutional duty? Those sound like libtard talking points, don't they?
Now, does all of that mean that MAGA cult members are finally waking up to reality, and seeing Dear Leader in a negative light, or as somehow compromised?
Hate to say this, but I wouldn't count on it. He simply defended his decision by saying that it was a nice gesture, and that he would be "Stupid" to turn down such a wonderful gift. I'd be willing to bet that tens of millions of MAGA cult members are ready to either (a) ignore this story altogether, or (b) drink the orange Kool Aid and accept Trump as a genius for obtaining such a heartwarming "gift," even when it clearly does not benefit the nation that Trump is supposed to represent and fight for.
But let's call a spade a spade here and state the obvious, shall we?
It's a bribe, and reeks of a conflict of interest for a head of state to accept a "gift" like this from a foreign nation.
Wake up!
