Hells' Bell Tolls in Austria

I think that I have made mention of Austria's rather weird record in the post-war years.

This was the country that elected Kurt Waldheim as President. Waldheim was known to have been a Nazi during the war.

This was the country that elected the most radically far right wing government in Europe since the Fascist regimes dating back to World War II, with Haider, not all that long ago.

The xenophobia that has run through Austria has stirred headlines form time to time, and there seems to be plenty of it still in existence right up to the present.

And then, this:

A bell honoring Adolf Hitler, and honoring his destiny to unite the German people, has been found atop a castle in an Austrian village sixty miles east of Vienna. It has a swastika on it, and has been there, undisturbed, since the war's end.

It's a bit hard to believe that nobody knew about it during all of that time. That it somehow remained a secret.

But it is causing quite a stir, and is a source of embarrassment right now for the Austrian government.

It also kind of makes you wonder what else might be found in Austria (or possibly elsewhere) right now that will also prove embarrassing and rather damning.

Here is the link to the article, with a picture of the bell included:
