President Trump Again Fails on Healthcare - This Time, With Lying Tweets (What Else?)

President Trump just cannot seem to help humiliating himself before the eyes of the entire world, can he?

Recently, he sent a tweet that was rife with lies and strange, overly convenient interpretations of certain realities.in the world.

Now, when I say that, of course, it is not exactly seen as bizarre news any longer, because this seems to be a daily occurrence with the Trump White House. It has been a circus act from day one, and his tweets have been among the most ridiculous and outrageous aspects of his presidency. So, when I mention that Trump sent out a ridiculous tweet that has the facts all wrong, I obviously have to be more specific. We have never seen such absurd times in at least the modern history of the United States. Sad, but true.

What happened this time?

Well, President Trump sent a tweet basically suggesting that thousands of people in the United Kingdom were protesting their supposedly broken healthcare system, and claiming that the Democrats wanted the same thing in the United States.

Here is the tweet:

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump The Democrats are pushing for Universal HealthCare while thousands of people are marching in the UK because their U system is going broke and not working. Dems want to greatly raise taxes for really bad and non-personal medical care. No thanks!  7:11 AM - Feb 5, 2018

As you can imagine, Trump's tweet received quite a bit of attention, including from people who know better, and who took exception to Trump's misleading and all too convenient interpretation of the facts. Jeremy Hunt, the serving Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and an obviously prominent member of the Conservative Party - yes, the Conservative Party! - in the United Kingdom, corrected Trump's information. He said that while there are issues and imperfections with Britain's healthcare system, his nation was most certainly not about to scrap it in favor of the for profit healthcare system in the United States, where he said that 28 million people still have no coverage. He then touted Britain's healthcare system, suggesting that everyone there gets care, no matter how big, or small, their bank accounts. Mind you, this is a conservative politician in Great Britain, not some pinko, out of touch, elitist liberal, as many people who express these kinds of views here in the United States are systematically labeled as. Here is Hunt's tweet response to Trump's tweet:

Jeremy Hunt ✔ @Jeremy_Hunt I may disagree with claims made on that march but not ONE of them wants to live in a system where 28m people have no cover. NHS may have challenges but I’m proud to be from the country that invented universal coverage - where all get care no matter the size of their bank balance https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/960486144818450432 …  8:19 AM - Feb 5, 2018

However, he was far from the only one who responded to Trump's ridiculous tweet. Jeremy Corbin, who is kind of the Bernie Sanders of the United Kingdom, also responded, outright stating that President Trump was wrong, and that the people were actually marching because they loved the healthcare system in Britain, and that his party, the Tories, considered healthcare a human right. Here is his tweet:

Jeremy Corbyn ✔ @jeremycorbyn Wrong. People were marching because we love our NHS and hate what the Tories are doing to it. Healthcare is a human right. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/960486144818450432 …  8:44 AM - Feb 5, 2018 137K 55.7K people are talking about this

So indeed, once again, our beloved President Trump ignores and/or distorts the facts for his overly convenient political gain, which itself happens to benefit the wealthiest and the big corporations of this country.

Because, you know, they have not been handed enough already, right?

And so, Trump is essentially defending the healthcare system that is roundly viewed throughout the rest of the world as one of the most glaring failures existing within the United States today. The fact that it leaves out literally tens of millions of people, and has now for many decades, is shameful, even if many Americans, including Trump himself, conveniently turn a blind eye to it.

They cannot be allowed to keep getting away with conveniently ignoring the facts, however. We need more voices not simply backing down, or offering their own all-too-convenient, elitist policies instead. Hillary did that, and look how well that worked!

No, what we need is to demand that the United States stop being the only industrialized nation that fails to provide it's citizens with universal, affordable healthcare. We need to speak out, long and strong, call a spade a spade, and define this for what it is: a failure. The healthcare system has failed the American people. Indeed, as Jeremy Hunt rightly mentioned, tens of millions of people remain without any healthcare coverage at all, and the United States has, far and away, the most expensive healthcare system in the world right now, and has for many years now!  This is a failure, and it needs to be clear to all Americans just how badly this system is failing, and not to allow lying, elitist politicians like President Trump to try and suggest otherwise!
