2014 Brazil World Cup - Day 3

Colombia 3, Greece 0

I was a bit surprised by this, because I thought Greece might be one of those sleeper teams.

But this was a crushing blow to them, essentially getting spanked in their first game.

Colombia took the Greek National Team apart, scoring

With Japan and Côte d'Ivoire still left to play, I imagine it might be a safe bet, essentially, to effectively stick a fork in Greece, at least for this tournament.

As for Colombia, it was a phenomenal way to start the tournament that is being played on their own continent, giving them some measure of home field advantage, which I think I may have underestimated in my predictions released a few days ago. If Colombia looks this good, they very well might be ready to win the group, and perhaps even win at least one elimination game. This was a very strong showing for the Colombian side!

And so far, the Latin American teams have been thriving in this World Cup. The only loss suffered by one Latin American team, was to another one, and here is more about that:

But Costa Rica came storming back to shock Uruguay, and hand them a stunning, 3-1 defeat instead that few could have predicted or foreseen.

Uruguay dominated the time of possession, but it was not enough for them to avoid a relative surprise loss to open up this World Cup in a

In the extra time, Uruguayan Maxi Pereira was given a red card.
