Pope Francis ‘Excommunicates’ Italian Mob

Like with the issue that I just wrote about (legalizing marijuana), anyone who regularly keeps up with this blog, or knows me personally, knows of my general admiration for Pope Francis I, although admittedly, the one issue that I know I disagree with him on is his opposition to legalizing marijuana.

That said, he came out strongly on an issue that probably should have been addressed a long time ago: the collusion of the church with the underground crime, with the mafia.

This seems so obvious, that it is a wonder it really did not come up earlier. The Church, at least in theory, is supposed to be about the teaching of Jesus, which includes compassion and nonviolence, and being a better person. In the meantime, the mafia has absolutely nothing to do with those things, and generally profits when people are coldest, when people are willing to do horrific things. How can there be any compatibility between the two?

But, he is bringing the church, and the mafia, to task on the issue now.
