Snow, Snow, & More Snow!

Well, there really is only one thing to talk about today here in this part of the northeast, and it is this: snow.

Yes, this is an incredibly snowy day, as a winter storm is passing through, ushering in a ton of expected snowfall. Here in northern New Jersey, we are expecting to get between a foot to a foot and a half of snow. Some parts could be more, they say. Not really all that surprising, since this is the northeast, it is now early February, right in the dead of winter, and we are getting hit by that historic snowstorm that came across the country. When it went across the west, it dumped over six or seven feet of snow, quite literally, in some parts of the west, particularly in higher elevations and in the mountains. It then moved across the country, pounding the prairie states and the Midwest, before reaching near eastern shores.

It was weird, because on Thursday, they were predicting that we would get pounded.

Then on Friday, I heard one weatherman say that it seemed that the storm was moving out farther south, so that northern New Jersey would probably not get hit too badly, and would see only a few inches of snow.

But then came Saturday, and when I got home from work that afternoon, they were once again predicting that the entire state would get hit, but especially the northern parts.

As if to underscore the unpredictability of it all, I kept hearing that the snowstorm would start late Sunday night, probably somewhere between 9 or 10 pm. Then, it was 7pm. Then, I heard it was between 5 and 6 pm. On Sunday, early in the afternoon (around a quarter to one), my girlfriend texted to say that it was snowing down where we live, which is maybe 30 miles or so farther south then where I work. It was not snowing where I was, at least not yet. But it seemed like it was coming, and would come soon.

Sure enough, the first flakes fell around an hour and a half later. Not too much, and not enough to stick. But enough to remind that they would begin to stick soon enough, and in a big way at that. Probably sooner rather than later. And it would probably be as bad as they were now predicting it would be.

It just seems like one of those snowstorms, I guess.

In any case, it seems that a majority of the country was impacted by this storm, literally from coast to coast. The entire area of Pennsylvania and the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area, as well as New England, was going to get slammed.

Well, I am trying to wait out this monster of a storm while stuck at work. Decided not to take a chance on trying to drive home, and risking my health, or the relative good health of my car. Also, not risk having to call out from work tonight.

So, I am here, stuck in the snow, and just trying to relax and wait out a storm that arrived on Sunday, and is expected to go well into Tuesday.

Hope you guys are staying safe out there, and see you on the other side!
