Very sad news to pass today.
Hilton Valentine, one of the founding members of the legendary British band The Animals, has passed away. He died on Friday, January 29th, at the age of 77.
Valentine remained close to Eric Burdon, the lead singer and most iconic member of the Animals.
My father and I were fortunate enough to see and even meet Hilton Valentine back in 1997, while he was on tour with the Animals II, which featured a couple of the original members of the band, him and John Steel on drums, on a very memorable night when they played with the Grass Roots, the Yardbirds II, and Gary Puckett, in Brooklyn. I even managed to obtain a couple of autographs for each member of the band. As a big fan of the Animals, it felt like a dream come true, even if it did not feature other original members, including Burdon, who I would also finally see a few months later.
Eric Burdon spoke recently about Valentine:
Rest in peace, Hilton Valentine.
