Lightning Bolt - Pearl Jam's Newest Album & Dave Matthews Gets Some Roadside Assistance to His Show

PEARL JAM

Yes, that's right. Pearl Jam is finally coming out with a new album this October, which will be followed up with a tour this fall.

For the first time today, I got a chance to listen "Mind Your Manners" from their upcoming album, "Lightening Bolt", which will be the band's tenth studio album. I am now listening to it again and again on Youtube, in fact. Much like their self-titled album, this track sounds quite punkish, with high energy and with a direct, aggressive, in your face style.

It would not seem out of place in some of their earlier, hard rocking albums, including the self-titled one.

Needless to say, it sounded awesome! Can't wait until the album comes out, and I hope to catch a show or two for the upcoming tour, as well. Really psyched about the news, from one of my favorite bands (alongside the Beatles)!

DAVE MATTHEWS

Now, how awesome must this have been?

Emily Kraus was on her way to see a Dave Matthews show in Hershey, Pennsylvania, with her boyfriend, when they saw someone stranded on the road.

She wanted to be a good samaritan, and so she pulled over to offer assistance.

Imagine her surprise when the guy she was  helping out turned out to be none other than Dave Matthews himself!

Matthews was on a bike ride before the show, when the bike unexpectedly broke down. He did not have a cell phone on him, and could use a lift back to the venue.

So, Emily, who had a bike rack on her car, offered to put the bike on the rack, and offered Matthews a ride.

He thanked her in a very public way, as well, sharing the story with the audience.

According to the article, "Dave Matthews found stranded on side of road by fan", by Dylan Stableford of Yahoo!, this is what Matthews told the crowd:

"I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, 'S---," Matthews told the audience later at Hersheypark Stadium. "And then a nice lady named Emily rode up in a red car with a bicycle rack on it and gave me a ride on to the gig."

Matthews invited the couple to dinner, and gave them backstage passes. he also autographed their tickets with the message: "Thanks for the ride."

I've been to a lot of concerts over the years, but it's hard to imagine having a cooler, more personalized and unique concert story than that!

Personally, I have nothing to compare with that. I have been to a few concerts where I saw, and often was right next to, one or more of the performers. That included Jello Biafra and the Melvins, as well as Joey Shithead of DOA. That also included the members of the Dead Kennedys (in the post-Jello era), and even managed to get each of their autographs. I even managed not only to kind of meet and talk a bit with Eric Burdon (formerly the frontman of the Animals), but actually spilled beer on the man. A few times, I have been very close, and had among the best seats at concerts. But actually not only meeting an artist, but giving him a ride to his own show? That's just in a way different league than most of us will ever come close to experiencing!

I got most of the information about the Dave Matthews story from the article, "Dave Matthews found stranded on side of road by fan", by Dylan Stableford of Yahoo!. Here's the link:
