So, the more that we learn about New Jersey's own governor and presidential hopeful Chris Christie, the less we want to hear about him.
His reputation some years ago was simply that he was a bully, and that his mannerisms were not befitting an elected official holding a respectable and honorable office.
Then came Bridgegate, and a lot of unanswered questions remain.
Now, here he is, trying to launch his name back into the news headlines to stay relevant in the suddenly quite populated Republican candidates for the presidency. He was set to announce what was billed as a major policy shift regarding entitlements, and also has suggested that, if he gains the White House, he will crack down on marijuana..
But another story featuring our beloved governor here in the Garden State is now emerging. Christie may have taken the better part of $400k from taxpayers, so that he could live a life of luxury.
There were already questions relating to his opulent lifestyle, and where he was getting the money for it in January, when he was spotted numerous times in the private box of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the playoffs, and the lead-up to the playoffs. There were questions about the ethics and legality of such "gifts' from someone who potentially has political ties with the governor, and how appropriate this was.
Now, the questions will rise about the $380,000 that Christie apparently paid absolutely no taxes on, and with a swirl of questions surrounding this.
It should not be surprising for a prospective 2016 presidential candidate with as high a profile as Chris Christie to be more closely scrutinized the closer we get to election season. But these stories that keep coming out are casting Christie in an increasingly suspicious light.
So far, he has managed to sidestep each controversy, as well as some pretty low approval ratings in the polls in his home state, to remain a prominent candidate seen as having a serious chance at being the Republican nominee, and potentially, the next president.
We shall see if he continues to survive these scandals, or if they all catch up with him at some point.
Frankly, even if these things do catch up, I would not be surprised if Christie remains on the national political radar, and like Mike Huckabee before him, he manages to get his own national TV program or radio program for some neocon station like FOX News.
In any case, here is the link to the article that got me on this topic:
