Jean-Marie Le Pen, Leader of French Far-Right, Again Refers to Nazi Gas Chambers as "Detail"
Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder and former leader of France's far-right National Front party, was infamous for having stated that the gas chambers of he Holocaust were a "detail" of history.
He reiterated those claims, just in case, someone had not yet heard him say it, or did not understand.
Le Pen's daughter, Marine, took over the party in 2011 and softened it's hard-edged image a bit, making it seem and feel to a lot of people a bit more responsible and acceptable to identify their political leanings with the Front Nationale. In the last election, the party was leading in the election until election night results came in. It looked like it would become France's biggest party for a while there, and it still is the second biggest party in France.
Despite this parry being a national affair, even Marine Le Pen spoke out against her father's words, trying to distance herself and her party from her father's negative image.
"This is nothing new. I profoundly disagree with Jean-Marie Le Pen both in form and content," she told AFP.
It remains to be seen how news of the controversial comments would impact the Front Nationale.
