Cynthia Lennon, the first wife of Beatle and legendary musician John Lennon, as well as mother of singer and artist Julian Lennon, died yesterday in her home in Mallorca, Spain.
Cynthia and John met in 1957 in an art school in Liverpool and got married in 1962, just before the Beatles exploded into fame. Ultimately, they got a divorce in 1968, when John Lennon got romantically involved with Yoko Ono.
Following the divorce, Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" to help Julian Lennon cope with the separation of his parents. That song has since come to be arguably the biggest and most iconic song in the Beatles repertoire.
She got married and divorce twice more after her highly publicized divorce to John. She also wrote two books largely about her famous ex-husband, and generally portrayed him in a negative light, even saying that he hit her one time after she danced with one of his bandmates.
Her son Julian wrote a song in her honor. The song sounds like it was influenced by John Lennon.
