However, since I posted something about Pope Francis already earlier today, it seemed fitting to go ahead and post this.
This blog entry was about the Pope's planned visit to America later this year. Also, I added some quotes and other interesting things that seems to set this particular pope apart.
I, for one, have been impressed. Perhaps if you peruse through what is available here, or the tons of material available online about the man and his work, particular since he assumed the papacy, you very well might wind up being impressed as well.
Take a look, and apologies for the unfinished quality of the stuff below:
"While the income of a minority is increasing exponentially, that of the majority is crumbling," said the Pope.
"People have to struggle to live, and frequently, to live in an undignified way", he said.
The pontiff told the ambassadors, "I encourage the financial experts and the political leaders of your countries to consider the words of Saint John Chrysostom: 'Not to share one's goods with the poor is to rob them and deprive them of life. It is not our goods that we possess, but theirs'."
"Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume
"Today everything comes under the laws of competition and the survival of the fittest, where the powerful feed upon the powerless. As a consequence, masses of people find themselves excluded and marginalized: without work, without possibilities, without any means of escape." ~ Pope Francis
Pope Francis said the economic imbalance is due to ideologies which uphold the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and take control away from States, which he said are charged with providing for the common good.

Pope Francis Celebrates 78th Birthday By Giving Hundreds Of Homeless People Sleeping Bags by Author: Vera, December 19, 2014

In his most authoritative writings as pontiff, Francis decried an “idolatry of money” in secular culture and warned that it would lead to “a new tyranny.” But he reserved a large part of his critique for what he sees as an excessively top-down Catholic Church hierarchy, calling for more local governance and greater inclusiveness — including “broader opportunities for a more incisive female presence in the Church.”
“Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” Francis wrote in the papal statement. “This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.”
“There’s no way a Catholic who is a serious intellectual can ever again not address the issue of income inequality, of the structural sins of our economic system. This is so front and center,” said Michael Sean Winters, a fellow at Catholic University’s Institute for Policy Research and Catholic Studies. “This is a pastor’s voice. He’s saying, ‘If we’re serious Christians, we need to be knee-deep in this stuff.’ ”

"While the income of a minority is increasing exponentially, that of the majority is crumbling. This imbalance results from ideologies which uphold the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation."
"Widespread corruption and selfish fiscal evasion have taken on worldwide dimensions."
"There is a need for financial reform along ethical lines that would produce in its turn an economic reform to benefit everyone."
