Jonathan Franzen is one of the premiere authors out there today.
He has a writing style that is engaging and accessible to read, yet also manages to delve into some very serious subject matter, doing so often in a humorous and highly entertaining manner.
Yet, his written works are infamously slow to arrive. I remember seeing Stephen King in Hartford, and he commented on this, saying that he very much appreciated Franzen's work, but wished that his books were a little less infrequent.
At least we have one new Franzen book to look forward to. His new novel Purity is set to hit bookstores in September.
This novel is supposed to be a departure from what we have grown used to as his writing style, although I for one am curious to see just how different this one will be.
One thing is for sure, however: if it is Franzen, it is going to be good.
Here is a link to an article on the new novel, as well as another one about a recent controversy that Franzen got involved in with the Audobahn Society.
Enjoy!
