The Battle of the Somme Broke Out 100 Years Ago

This is one day late, because I forgot to post this yesterday.

Better late than never.

It was a century ago yesterday that one of the deadliest and most famous battles of World War I (or the Great War, as it was known then) took place. It was the deadliest battle on the western front, with over one million killed or wounded.

Given that World War I unleashed more aggression and casualties than any other war that came before it, that is saying something.

Also, it was the first time that tanks were used, as well as the first time that air power actually played an important role in a major battle.

Remembering the Battle of the Somme, and those on both sides who suffered and/or died from it, one hundred years ago today. Let us hope that we never see a war quite like either of the two world wars again, or unleash such massive suffering again!
