Disgruntled Star Wars Fans Petition Disney to Remove "The Last Jedi" From Star Wars Canon

There were things that I really enjoyed about "The Last Jedi," as well as some things that I actually really did not like, as well. From the reactions that I have heard and seen, it can be gauged that there is one thing in particular about this movie that bothered a lot of people, myself included.

Most people might discuss it and complain about it. Or, in my case, you might write about it, as well (and my spoiler review will be coming, so I will be elaborating on it, as well).

But that is not enough for some fans. Apparently, there is a petition floating around to try and actually remove this latest film from the Star Wars canon.

You can't make this stuff up.

This is going too far, though.

Frankly, these people need to stop taking everything so damn seriously, and get a life!

You want to get outraged? Look around you. There are millions of people who are starving and homeless during this holiday season! There are powerful people trying to hold onto every vestige of privilege and power that they can and, in fact, they are trying to grab more of them, at the expense of everyone else! Science and facts are being attacked regularly. Things seem to be growing worse, not better.

Get outraged over some of those things, perhaps. Things that truly matter and are relevant in the here and now, and can make a different in people's lives if they improve.

Star Wars is fiction. Maybe you are a fan, and if so, that's great. But to organize and take action because you did not like every idea in a movie?

That's a ridiculous waste of time and energy. It's overly self-indulgent and, quite frankly, it feels like what is wrong with the United States right now, when people are more focused on stupid, mindless nonsense like this, or pathetic reality television shows, rather than the things that actually matter and are real.

Besides, it is pointless. The movie has already been made, with Disney investing a great deal of money in it. It has generated a lot of money, too. And Disney is in it for the long haul.

Will a petition change their minds?

Well, let's go back to the words of Luke Skywalker from this last movie:

“This is not going to go the way you think.”

Not, at least, if you believe that this will indeed make a difference. So, in short, no, a petition will not change anything, and will in fact open these people up to ridicule for taking their own tastes in the Star Wars franchise waaay too seriously!
