Star Wars: The Last Jedi Star John Boyega Urges the Franchise to Become More Progressive & Reflect Greater Diversity

Well, opening weekend for the new Star Wars movie is over. "The Last Jedi" raked in over $200 million, as I understand it, and it now ranks as the second most successful opening weekend for any movie of all time, right behind it's predecessor, "The Force Awakens."

Many are talking about it, and reacting to specifics in the movie. I gave my own, spoiler-free review yesterday after seeing the movie, and will soon publish one with greater details, and which will have spoilers in it.

However, there is other news in the Star Wars front, other discussion points. I ran into one article in which one of the stars of this new trilogy is suggesting that this franchise needs to be more progressive, and saved publishing this until Star Wars was dominating the news, as it seems to be doing right now, predictably.

The Star Wars franchise needs to be more diverse,  according to one of the biggest stars of this newest trilogy.

John Boyega, who plays the former Stormtrooper for The First Order, but then instead decides to join the resistance,  has said that the Star Wars franchise needs to have more diversity in it.

The franchise has gotten a bit more diverse over time, particularly with this trilogy. The Jedi and the rebels are no longer dominated by white males, and there are more women playing in significant roles, both as good and bad guys, and those in between.

However, Boyega feels that more needs to be done, and he is urging for the franchise to grow more progressive.
