Dallas Crushes Washington on Thursday Night Football With a Decisive 38-14 Win

Washington

vs.

Dallas Cowboys

Well, obviously I predicted this one wrong!

Indeed, Washington had played some good teams very tough, while Dallas seemed to be going in exactly the wrong direction. This led me to believe that the Cowboys were ripe for a home loss on Thursday Night Football, one that would effectively end their slim and flickering playoff hopes.

What do I know?

What happened instead was that the 'Boys managed to pull off a very impressive and dominant win to keep themselves in the playoff hunt. In the process, they effectively ended Washington's hopes of qualifying for the postseason this year.

Dallas was able to capitalize off of numerous Washington turnovers. They took a 17-point lead in the second quarter. Washington did manage to get a touchdown late in the quarter to make it a little bit more respectable in score, although they were totally dominated by Dallas. Still, the 'Boys only went into the lock room leading 17-7 by halftime, despite their total dominance.

Washington failed tom establish an effective running game, particularly in the second half, and Kirk Cousins was taken out for Washington's final drive, although it was not entirely clear whether it was due to injury (he had taken a big shot in the previous drive) or because of poor play. The game was already decided and well out of reach for Washington by that point, anyway.

Dak Prescott threw two touchdowns, and Washington's defense was completely unable to contain the Cowboys attack, and Washington's offense remained unfit for the task of keeping up. This was a totally one-sided game, as the Cowboys kept their playoff hopes alive, and ended their three-game slide, while effectively extinguishing Washington's own playoff hopes.
