Trump Is Going to El Paso Following Mass Shootings, Even Though Some Local Political Leaders Do Not Want Him

In his more than two and a half years since taking office, Trump has established a firm tradition of making things worse, not better. Through it all, he makes sure that he gets plenty of downtime to work on his golf game, particularly on weekends and holidays.

He promised, as a candidate, not to play golf like Obama did. Not only does he play golf, but he plays more rounds of golf than Obama, or any president has, by far. It is pretty much an every weekend thing with this man.

That was where he was and what he was doing over this past weekend when the El Paso Walmart massacre took place. Hours later, in the overnight hours, there was yet another mass shooting, this time in Dayton, Ohio.

According to some reports (I have not yet confirmed whether this actually happened or not), Trump may have still played a round of golf on Sunday, after both massacres. Because why let the problems of the country get in the way of your golf game, right? Especially when you promised not to have the time to play golf as a candidate, but have hardly made time for anything else since becoming president, and all at enormous taxpayer expense.

Clearly, however, Trump had to do something. He finally - and I do mean finally - condemned white supremacy by name, calling it out as an evil. And he also set up plans to visit El Paso, Texas, in the wake of this mass shooting.

Yet, some officials, including a Congresswoman from the region, tried to prevent Trump from visiting, feeling that he was more a part of the problem than a part of any solution.

Still, Trump is heading to western Texas to visit the area and, presumably, victims and their families. That is right of a president to do, after all. But Trump is different, because his fomenting hatred and polarization tactics have really begun to be under greater scrutiny than perhaps ever before in the aftermath of these mass shootings in recent days.

So, there is a question of whether Trump's planned visit is actually going to improve things at all, or if it will make things worse, as many fear, based on extensive past history.  Regardless of concerns, you just know Trump is going to pay a visit.

My question, though: would it be better for Trump to actually pay a visit, knowing what he tends to do is polarize people? Or would it be better, frankly, if he simply just kept away and stopped pretending like he cares, and to continue to work on his golf game, where at least, he can do minimal damage to the country?
