- Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi
You read this quote above, and might think that it was a joke. Certainly, you would be excused if you came to the conclusion that it was meant in jest, not to be taken literally. Not in the 21st century, surely, right?
It was not meant as a joke. This was something actually reported on by the Iranian media, and which Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, a cleric in that country, actually said during a prayer service and, apparently, also believes.
Fear not, though, for the science-hating cleric had a solution:
"What can we do to avoid being buried under the rubble? There is no other solution but to take refuge in religion and to adapt our lives to Islam's moral codes."
In other words, think exactly as I tell you to think. Do not trust science, or other sources. Or common sense. Believe as I believe, do as I tell you, and forget all else.
A clear example of spreading ignorance to the gullible who do not know any better. Similar to Pat Robertson's claims here in the United States that similar natural catastrophes have fallen on the United States as punishment for acceptance of homosexuality.
You cannot make this stuff up!
As a fitting end to this particular blog entry, I thought it would be worth sharing one person's humorous observations (and I am quite sure that he was joking) regarding just how right Carole King was, then, when she wrote the lyrics:

"I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you're around."
