Republicans Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Paul Gosar of Arizona have created a new political movement that will likely have many of us longing for the good old moderate days of Tea Party conservatives, much like the presidency of Donald Trump made the presidency of George W. Bush look sensible and responsible by way of comparison.
It will be called the "America First Caucus," and seems to have aligned itself fairly closely to the political stance of Trump and his cult following.
This was probably inevitable, given the political trends in the country at the moment. It was clear that the political rise of Donald Trump would have some serious and long-term ramifications for this country, and that is indeed the case.
Breaking News: As I was still in the process of writing this, Marjorie Taylor Greene decided to put some distance from herself and this seemingly burgeoning political movement, after receiving serious backlash as a result of it. There was blowback not only from Democrats, but even from some Republicans who labeled this group racist and nativist, and accused it of spreading discredited lies and conspiracy theories about widespread mass voter fraud that effectively stole the election away from Trump.
Nevertheless, she also tried to claim some measure of victimhood, in typical passive-aggressive style. Move boldly on a ridiculous publicity stunt like this, and then back off but firing some shots along the way, naturally. She claimed that the media took some of the stuff out of context. As if promoting almost transparently racist values and viewpoints was not consistent with what Greene and other extremist Trump supporters in Congress have revealed about themselves.
The lead clown may be gone, but clearly the circus show goes on and on in present day Washington. What an absolute farce.
