Super Bowl IV Memories

Pro Football Hall of Fame

Football field for Super Bowl IV.

This is what the field would have looked like had the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders won the NFL and AFL title games, instead of the Vikings and the Chiefs.

Still was not born for this one, so let's just take a look at what happened in that year. Biafra formally surrendered, thus ending the genocide in Nigeria. Richard Nixon invaded Cambodia. The shootings at a peaceful anti-war rally on the campus of Kent State University, which inspired Neil Young's Ohio. The Beatles broke up. Elvis began his first tour since 1958. Black Sabbath's first album was released. Elton John's first ever album was released. The Who recorded Live at Leeds. The Environmental Protection Agency had been established in the United States. The very first Earth Day is celebrated. The North Tower of the World Trade Center was completed and stood as the tallest building in the world. Rhodesia severed all remaining ties with Great Britain and established itself as a republic, although it was ruled by a white minority government in a majority black nation. German Chancellor Willy Brandt fell to his knees before a monument to the Warsaw Ghetto. The end of the October Crisis in Québec ends two months later, in December, when the pro-liberation Front de libération du Québec released British Trade Commissioner James Cross, who had been captured two months before. Doonsebury premieres in American newspapers. Brazil would win the last of it's World Cups with Pele. The New York Knicks won their first NBA title. Tom Dempsey kicked a record 63-yard field goal. Three Rivers Stadium opened in Pittsburgh, and Riverfront Stadium opened in Cincinnati.
