Super Bowl V -  January 17, 1971. Baltimore Colts 16, Dallas Cowboys 13. Orange Bowl, Miami. MVP: Chuck Howley, Favorite: Colts by 2.5, Attendance: 79,204, National anthem: Tommy Loy, Halftime show: Southeast Missouri State College Marching Golden Eagles Band with Anita Bryant, Network: NBC, Announcers: Curt Gowdy and Kyle Rote, ratings: 39.9 46 million viewers. Cost of 30-second commercial: $72,000. First ever Super Bowl played on artificial turf, also first Super Bowl played after the completion of the AFL-NFL merger, It remains the only Super Bowl in which the MVP was given to a member of the losing team.

Major General Idi Amin led a coup d'état in Uganda, seizing power. Erich Honecker became the leader of East Germany. President Nixon ended the trade embargo with China. Mao invited the American ping pong team to China. President Mobutu renames the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zaire. India and the Soviet Union sign a 20 year friendship treaty. World population was roughly 3.7 billion.
