Jello Biafra on the World Today

Sometimes, you just have to leave a little room for some Jello.

Yes, of course I am referring to Jello Biafra, a punk icon and current frontman for Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine.

Biafra has long been very outspoken on issues, and lent his voice to numerous causes. So you know that he has plenty to say about the current world situation, with war once again looming in the Middle East, with a major climate change conference taking place in Paris, while much of the American media has managed not to focus much attention on at all, and with Donald Trump making news for all the wrong reasons during his presidential campaign.

So in a recent interview, Biafra talks about a wide range of topics and, as always, he has some fascinating things to say.

Concerning the social media today, Biafra rightly says that "we have more access to more information than ever before – the problem is, now we’re being bombarded with it."

When asked about climate change/global warming, Biafra answered that

"Even the dumbing down of the term 'climate change', because too many people were scared to buy SUVs when they called it 'global warming' – that’s a deliberate dumbing down of what’s going on. We’re way behind on trying to fight the thing, but it’s a hell of a lot better than giving up. A lot of people reading this are going to be very much alive when the shit really starts hitting the fan.”

“Well, people are saying that, but it was supposed to be 20 to 100 before things like Hurricane Sandy hit, and for the wildfires to be on the level that they are, but that’s happening right now. The glacial melt that’s happening… A lot of people are saying that the Himalayan glaciers are going to disappear altogether in our lifetime – and if they dry up, what happens to things like the Ganges River in India? If you think we’ve got refugees now, just wait until climate collapse really kicks in.”

He was also asked about making new music, and was flirting with renaming one of the most well-known of Dead Kennedys songs, altering the title of "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" to Nazi Trumps Fuck Off"  to fit the times.

Speaking of Trump, Biafra had flirted with an idea concerning "The Donald" that he was going to do, although he thought better of it when he considered more seriously the possibility that he might get sued by some seriously nasty and powerful people. Here was the original idea:

“I've been tempted to put up one of my What Would Jello Do? YouTube rants, offering $10,000 that I don’t have to the first person who could mess up Trump’s hair, but a lawyer friend red-flagged that idea. The last thing I need is to get sued by people even nastier than the ones who sued me the last time!”
