Well, here we go again.
That troublesome ex-President of ours, Jimmy Carter, has gone and done it! He is going around, advocating peaceful solutions to the crisis in the Middle East.
How very un-Christian of him!
Even worse, he has tried to find common ground with those who believe differently than he does, and urged them to search the words of Allah in their poisoned holy book in order to find some message of peace and reconciliation to end a crisis that has plagued humanity for decades now!
How unchristian can you get?
According to Bethany Blankley, Carter's numerous infringements on his stated religion are many. This is what she had to say about the ex-President and his belief that we should aim for a more peaceful world:
"Sadly, and not surprisingly, Jimmy Carter (and many others) uses his faith to justify and advocate on behalf of policies that are anti-Biblical. Numerous examples abound, but a few recent examples should suffice."
The very first thing that she mentions, rather predictably, is that he falsely claimed that there is nothing in the Bible against same-sex marriage. That, of course, is the greatest evil that exists within American borders today. Just ask the Westboro Baptist Church!
But Blankley's criticisms of Jimmy Carter went much farther than that, I'm afraid!
Let's look at what else she had to say:
"At a Carter Foundation event last year, Carter asserted Biblical doctrine (prohibiting women ministers or priests) limits women's human rights in the same vein as Islamic doctrine that advocates child marriage, child prostitution and sex slavery, FGM, honor killings, and little-to-know legal rights for women."
Little-to-know legal rights for women.
Of course, if Blankley had bothered to read any of Jimmy Carter's works, or followed his post-Presidency at all, she would know that he is actively engaged in fighting these crimes that she states throughout the world, and his latest book, "A Call to Action", specifically focuses on trying to expand women's rights throughout the world. In it, he also discusses, at length, the problem of child marriage, child prostitution, and sex slavery. Far from just professing his faith to declare some vague opposition to these things, he is active in the field in fighting these things, and yes, he bases this activism, and his hopes to help make a better world, on his faith.
But, of course, facts matter little to those who are not arguing facts, but mere opinion. We have to suppose that Blankley considers herself a Christian, although her version of Christianity is that ugly, judgmental version that seems to closely resemble a doctrine of hatred cloaked behind a Bible that they interpret, and then use, to justify their prejudices.
Clearly, Blankley dislikes homosexuals, and if asked, she would base her dislike on her religious beliefs. But clearly, there are others in this article that she makes no bones about disliking, too. Muslims are targeted as well. In fact, they seem to be the biggest enemy, and she sees them taking over everywhere.
In fact, the impression that you get is that Carter's false faith is, in fact, a Muslim faith! In fact, he is in cahoots with what many people proclaim is the "secret Muslim" that is serving as President today. Here, in her own words, is what she says:
Christians do not believe this. In fact, we boldly reject it. Proclaiming instead that the only God is known through his only son, Jesus Christ, fully aware that the Muslims in the White House are working with men like Carter to advance Islam at home and abroad."
Most people, no matter their faith, would agree that Jimmy Carter is a good man, through his decades of selfless work, his church activism (which includes not just teaching most Sundays at his local church, but taking the time and effort in helping to build homes for the poor, and also actually going literally around the world to help improve living conditions for the poor and disadvantaged the world over), and his willingness to put himself in danger in order to create a better, more peaceful world in accordance with his Christian, his Southern Baptist, beliefs. Even if they do not agree with his politics, most concede that he is well meaning, and that he has done good works.
Not Blankley, however! She sums up Carter's devious behavior and career in one fell swoop:
Like a leopard, Carter's original spots, his innate nature, no matter how well disguised, were revealed. Sadly, Carter embodies all of what God hates:
A lying tongue: No one who knows Jesus Christ could ever say, as Carter did, that "the principles of Allah" are key to peace in the Middle East. No Christian can affirm the Qur'an as anything other than false.
So, what is it that Jimmy Carter said that was so bad, that gets people like Blankley so incensed to begin with?
Here, in part, is what Carter said that so incensed Blankley:
“We follow the basic principles of the United Nations, the United States Government and all the European countries, and most countries on Earth, and that is that Israel should withdraw from all the occupied territories to the 1967 borders modified only by an agreed delineation of a little more territory from Israel, near Jerusalem, in exchange for property given to the Palestinians in their own homeland.”
Blankley believes this is, among other things, is proof that Carter, among others, is actually a Muslim.
But I'm confused, because Blankley also declares that "Carter ignores the fundamental teaching of the Qur'an: Muslims are required to implement Shari'a worldwide; non-Muslims must convert to Islam or be slaughtered, as is happening right now. No Christian can stand with the very people who are killing fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. But Carter does."
How can Carter ignore the essential teachings of a religion that, according to Blankley, he believe in?
For that matter, how is it that Blankley, who claims to be solely a Christian and to follow the Bible, and reject all other non-Christian religions, wind up essentially advocating Zionism? It's okay for her to support, or by her logic, to essentially be a Jew, when she claims Christianity rejects all other religious teachings? After all, it is worth repeating that she claims that "the only God is known through his only son, Jesus Christ". To my knowledge, Jews generally do not accept Jesus Christ.
But Blankley is not the only one claiming that Carter is little more than a de facto puppet for Islamic terrorism. A Harvard professor, no less, suggests essentially the same thing:
"Jimmy Carter has now become an all-out cheerleader for Hamas," Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said in a Newsmax interview earlier this month. Citing Carter’s call for the US and Europe to recognize Hamas, Professor Dershowitz said, “It's against the law in the United States, even if you're a former president, it's against the law to provide material support to a listed terrorist organization, and Jimmy Carter's coming awfully close to that line."
Perhaps at least a hint of alternative, and far more reasonable answer, can be found in another article on the subject, only this one with far more responsible, and capable, journalism.
But it’s important to note upfront that ISNA is not Hamas. It’s one of the most prominent umbrella groups representing American Muslims, the vast majority of whom are law-abiding citizens. And for nations like the US and other Western democracies, one of the approaches to countering Islamic terrorism is to support moderate or mainstream Muslim groups, and not simply demonize all Muslims by lumping them into one sinister category, as Bethany Blankely does?
Just saying...
