One thing that most people, myself included, tend to learn as they get older is to acknowledge when they are appreciative of things, and to find a deeper appreciation for them.
So it is that I find myself Thankful for having what really was a very nice, extended Thanksgiving weekend.
On Thursday, of course, it was Thanksgiving, and being with family and friends, having a wonderful meal to enjoy (twice over for me!), was very pleasant. Yet, there was more than that. I managed to write and get published an article about the controversial history of Thanksgiving. I felt a sense of accomplishment about that, and even received a compliment about it from my main editor. Also, there were some nice opportunities to take some beautiful pictures of snow-clad trees and lakes in winter wonderland likes scenes. At the end of the evening, I found a Hess station that actually was selling the newest Hess trucks for Christmas. My son had expressed strong interest in getting that as a gift.
Then, on Friday, I had a lazy, relaxing day with my girlfriend, and I did more work on articles for Guardian Liberty Voice. Finally, my brother and I went to Englewood to see a concert that we had really great seats for, and it was a great show!
Saturday was nice and relaxing. I was about to go out to take care of some banking, but chose to relax and stay home instead. It was a pleasantly relaxing day. My girlfriend and I put up the lights on the tree and finished decorating, and it looks really nice!
Finally yesterday, I spent some quality time with my son. We took a small hike in the wintry conditions on the trails, and then returned home, where I read more of the Percy Jackson book to him, which was really cool. Then, later in the evening, there was the Grey Cup, which was the first time that I actually ever got to see one of those. That was really cool, and I was very pleased to watch it, feeling pretty blessed.
This morning, I was able to complete not one, but two articles that hopefully will be published soon, and I'm especially hopeful that they will be published without any issues that they will send it back to me for.
The last couple of days, I had a good chance to catch up here for this blog page, which was nice, since time here has been more limited than usual.
So, it felt good to be able to write those, nonetheless. Later today, I will get another chance to read some more to my son, and I am hoping that we progress more on the book. We are more than halfway done, and I wanted to finish it well before the new year, and to start on the third book in the series of five, so that we are well underway by the time that 2015 gets here.
All of that, plus 104.3 is doing their annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition of playing what they claim to be the 1,043 top rock songs of all time, at least according to the votes. That meant that there was good music pretty much through the weekend, although as I write this, I have not actually seen the list yet. I imagine Stariway got the number one song again, but cannot say for certain.
Also, today will be the last day of my volleyball class, which I enjoy immensely. Looking forward to it, and wish it would last longer.
But I am definitely at the point where I feel appreciative for a weekend that actually stood out for being pleasant, overall! And in the spirit of Thanksgiving, it seemed appropriate to state this appreciation!
