China Surpasses US as Largest Economic Power in the World

Wow! That came a lot sooner than I expected it.

Like most people, I too had heard that China was set to overtake the United States as the largest economy in the world. It is, after all, a fast growing economic powerhouse that was set to overtake the United States in the relatively near future. It was around a year or two ago that I heard that it would overtake the US within a decade or so. Two tops.

But this soon?

That seems amazing to me!

It happened far faster than anyone seemed to imagine it would.

Already, the United States ranks second in the world economically, which leaves it leading the world only militarily now.

The decline that, to my understanding, began in 1973 has brought us to this point, where we already find ourselves not only not enjoying the highest standard of living in the world, but also no longer even being the richest economy in the world.

This is a seismic type of shift! Huge news, and perhaps you would not be wrong to think that headlines all over the world would be screaming the news out! Yet, you barely hear anything about it! It will likely be a bit muted here in the US, since it does not necessarily bode well for the nation, and is thus this is obviously not particularly welcome news. However, I am sure that they are celebrating this distinction in China.

You kind of have to wonder what is next at this point, don't you?
