Trump Finally Showing Signs of Awareness That Criminal Actions Have Consequences

Clearly, the charges that are swirling around Trump, and the notion that he deserves to be held accountable and impeached for all of his wrongdoings are weighing on him.

Numerous times, Trump has mentioned to his supporters at the infamous rallies that if Democrats get their way, he will be impeached. In fact, that was one of the main themes that Trump kept reiterating in the lead-up to the 2018 midterm elections.

More recently, he outright asked new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi why everyone wants to impeach him.

Pelosi responded that nobody wanted to impeach him, which is pretty much what you would expect from a mainstream Democrat.

But Trump does need to be held accountable for his actions, regardless of - or perhaps especially because - he denies them, and mocks them, or attacks anyone who brings them up or attacks him with his infamous tweets.

Let me make one thing clear: this is not the Nixon era, and Republicans today are not as responsible as Republicans back in the 1970's were, when they actually were willing to hold a President from their own party accountable for wrongdoing. Republicans right now just are not willing to listen or budge from their stubborn lock and step positions.

Still, it is a bit refreshing to finally see Trump recognize, to the extent that such a numb-skull can realize, that there are consequences to his actions. For a very long time, he acted like there could never be any negative consequences to any of his actions. He makes ridiculous boasts, he incites hatred, he engages in criminal and blatantly corrupt activities, and most especially, he lies and lies and lies through his teeth like no one we have ever seen before. His megalomania is the stuff of legend, and he has somehow found a way to make a diverse nation of 310 plus million people with various different backgrounds, experiences, and beliefs, feel a whole lot smarter, because he relentlessly makes every issue about him, ever since he campaigned for the White House, and especially since he won the election.

Until quite recently, he seemed to have a total air of invulnerability to him, making ridiculous boasts about how everyone loved him, and never taking any other opinion but his own seriously.

Now, however, the pitfalls of his criminal actions are beginning to catch up with him. A majority of Americans believe that he will be impeached, and according to some reports, even he is starting to believe it.

Admittedly, I do not. I suspect that him resigning would be a more likely scenario, and I suspect - strongly suspect - that he will not even resign. That all of this will simply blow away, because Republicans - even his Republican opponents - are not willing to hold a criminal President of their own party accountable for his actions. Just another step in the decline of the United States, and of the rule of traditional constitutional law here.

Hopefully, I am wrong. But yes, I believe that Trump's presidency will survive all of these threats, because a lot of these hopes for the Mueller investigation and what they feel is the inevitability of the impeachment of Trump are more wishful thinking than anything else.

Don't get me wrong: I believe that in a more ideal world, Trump would indeed be held accountable, and would already have been impeached. But then again, in a more ideal world, someone like Trump would never have gotten into such a high office that he so clearly does neither deserves nor respects, would never in a lifetime have gotten close to obtaining it in the first place.

What this country needs is to understand just how disastrous Donald Trump has been, and to remember how his rise came to be, and how so many came to support him, regardless of his clear wrongdoings and how much he polarized the nation. Unfortunately, I do not believe that this nation has learned, and that is why he not only will likely survive the Mueller investigations and it's aftermath, but has a good chance of being re-elected, to boot. Not what I want, but what I want has nothing to do with it.

Still, it sure is nice to see him sweat, for a change.
