Late last week (on Thursday, specifically) Pearl Jam released their latest video. It is the third video release from the newest album. This one is called “Retrograde”. It is one of the tracks from “Gigaton”, the band’s latest effort, and the 11th album release in Pearl Jam’s history.
True to the cover and the overall theme, this video has an alarming message about the climate crisis.
It is done in a strange style, not quite animated, but not straight up regular camera, either. In it, we see a man who seems troubled, going to a psychic. There is a crystal ball, and in it, we see some seriously troubling, even disturbing, images. We see huge chunks of ice falling off glaciers in the Arctic, falling into the sea. We see the sea rise causing massive problems in cities around the world, including New York, Seattle, Paris, and London.
Not exactly an uplifting message. But definitely a wake-up call. One that we would all do well to heed.
