I have said this before about "breaking news," and it seems fitting to say it again here and now: this is no great surprise. Donald Trump, the sitting president, and his wife Melania, have tested positive for the coronavirus.
So, what now?
Well, first of all, let me reveal my more cynical side and suggest that this might be some kind of publicity stunt. He might be going for some kind of a sympathy vote. Remember, we are just a little more than a month away from the election. Or, he will get through this and then be able to claim, with more legitimacy with his base of support than ever before, that it is not that bad.
Yes, I know that is extremely cynical on my end.
Then again, Donald Trump brings that kind of cynicism to the public in a way that no one else I have seen has ever done. Frankly, he is a very negative person who disguises himself (not all that skillfully, but it is obviously more than enough for his blindly loyal supporters and admirers) as incredible positive and capable. In reality, he is neither.
So, I do not want to wish another human being ill. But the timing of this seems a little too....convenient? Coincidental?
Perhaps I am being too cynical. If he really has it, maybe it's time for him to put his money (he apparently does not have anywhere near as much money as he pretended to have, as everyone now knows) where his big mouth is, and take hydroxychloroquine and shove a light up his big butt, as he has advocated both of these in the not so distant pass. He seems to champion these kinds of things when it comes to others with Covid-19. Now is the time to prove it.
