Tuesday Night Football Review: Titans Blow Out Bills in Battle of Unbeatens

Tennessee Titans 42, Buffalo Bills 16 

This was not much of a showdown, despite both teams entering this game with perfect records.  

Indeed, the hometown Titans crushed and humiliated the Bills, scoring on the game’s second play, and simply never looking back.  

Buffalo managed to keep the game relatively close through to the end of the second quarter. But the Titans, already up 14-10, were able to get a touchdown when Tennehill ran for a 10-yard touchdown with just 16 seconds left in the first half. That seemed to hit the Bills pretty hard, and they never seemed to recover. The Titans added to that late in the third quarter, and they scored two touchdowns late in the game after Buffalo had scored a touchdown of their own early in the final quarter to make it somewhat of a competitive game.  

Statistically, the two teams were surprisingly even in some categories. They were fairly even on first downs, with the Titans enjoying a bit of a lead in that category. They were fairly even in time of possession, with the Bills holding a slight advantage. Hell, Buffalo even outgained the Titans in overall yards, 370 to 334 for Tennessee.  

But in one area, the story of the game was telling. The Bills committed three turnover, to none for the Titans. And, of course, the two teams were very unequal in terms of points produced, obviously.  

Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill completed 21 of 28 passes for 195 and three touchdowns. A.J. Brown was his favorite target, as he reeled in seven receptions for 82 yards and one touchdown. Running back Derrick Henry added 57 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.  

In a losing cause for the Bills, Josh Allen completed 26 of 41 passes for 263 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Stefon Diggs led Bills receivers with 10 receptions for 106 yards. T.J. Yeldon added 52 yards on just seven carries.  

With the win, Tennessee improves to  still perfect 4-0. They are one of two teams in the AFC left with unbeaten records (the other being the Steelers). They will next host the Texans this coming weekend. Meanwhile, the Bills drop to 4-1 on the season, but retain sole possession of first place in the AFC East. Their next game, originally scheduled for Thursday, has now been pushed back to Monday, when they host the Chiefs, who also received their first defeat this weekend.
