While President Trump has a reputation for lying and exaggerating and often puts on fronts, he unfortunately was quite serious about imposing significant tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico. Despite warnings by many opponents and concerned citizens, he went ahead and made good on his campaign promise to impose harsh tariffs on those countries. Those tariffs were made official earlier this month.
Now, Canada and Mexico already announced retaliatory tariffs that they are placing on American goods. China and Canada are also pursuing legal actions.
Sure seems like the beginnings of a trade war, one which will likely harm the economies of all of the nations involved.
Those Americans who supported and voted for Trump really cannot complain, even if these measures wind up hurting them. After all, this is something that, like it or not, Trump clearly stated he would do once in office. And now he has indeed gone ahead and done it.
