Below is a short video clip of an elephant at some zoo somewhere slipping and falling.
It could have been serious, although the elephant appears to be alright. I was moved by the immediate concern that the other elephants show in the video. One even literally runs to the fallen companion, just to make sure that he is okay.
That reaction by the elephants was quite heartwarming, actually.
What is far from heartwarming, however, is the reaction from the human beings. They could be heard laughing, and not just children. It really kind of pissed me off, actually.
Sometimes, you hear people say disparagingly that someone is "acting like an animal." It is often meant to imply that the person is acting in an out of control or even a heartless manner. But it seems to me like videos like this, or images which show human beings leaving their literal trash behind at beaches or in rivers (or pretty much elsewhere) would suggest that acting like far too many human beings too often tend to do in our modern civilization is the far greater insult, frankly.
We need to reevaluate our priorities.
