Personal memories: This was a very cold winter, with a lot of snow (every two to three days from the day after Christmas until well into March).  It was cold every day during that stretch, getting so cold that the snow that kept piling up actually froze to ice, with no chance of melting. So, shoveling ended up being a very laborious chore after a while, as you really had to throw the snow up high, adding to the walls of snow. watched Super Bowl at a friend's house, which was the first time that I saw the big game somewhere other than home with my family. I would start working at a now defunct retail store, Steinbach, at Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey. First, I needed to learn to drive a stick shift. Also, started to go to a lot of events this year, particularly concerts and sporting events. Big year in New York sports, with the New York Rangers ending their drought of 54 years by capturing the Stanley Cup, beating the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Finals to do it, while the Knicks had an incredible run to the NBA Finals themselves. They finally managed to defeat the Bulls (without Jordan, of course), and then had that amazing series against Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers, before losing in the deciding Game 7 against the Rockets in Houston. Kurt Cobain shot himself in Seattle in April of this year. Green Day broke big, and Pearl Jam seemed to rule the airwaves throughout this year, on the heels of the release of their second album, Vs., and later in the year, their third album, Vitalogy.

Much like the previous year's Super Bowl, this big game made history. This was the first actual Super Bowl rematch between the same two teams that had met the year before. Unfortunately, that also meant that one team, the Dallas Cowboys, were very heavily favored against the other team, the Buffalo Bills. Also, the Buffalo Bills became the first team in NFL history to qualify for a fourth straight Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the loss to the Cowboys, the second time in a row that they lost to Dallas in the big game, and their fourth straight Super Bowl loss in all, meant that they made history of a different sort, as well. As for the Cowboys, they struggled for much of the season, losing their first two games (one of them to those same Buffalo Bills) when star running back Emmitt Smith sat out. They returned to form when he returned, working their way back near the top with seven straight wins (including one against their big rivals, the 49ers), before losing two straight again (one of them the infamous Thanksgiving showdown in the snow against Miami). Then, they won out, including a huge win at the Giants on the final weekend. In the playoffs, they blew out the Packers, and then the 49ers in Texas Stadium. In the Super Bowl, the Bills actually were winning and outplaying Dallas in the first half, but started to fall apart after a Thurman Thomas fumble resulted in a Dallas defensive touchdown early in the second half. The Cowboys did not win as convincingly or as easily as they had the previous year, but they still managed to become the seventh team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles, clinching their fourth overall ring, tying the Steelers and the 49ers with the most with this championship.

Here are some of the major events that took place in 1994, the year this Super Bowl was played. The world's population was 5.602 billion people. Probably the biggest news story of this year was the genocide in Rwanda that took the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, with some estimates closing in on one million people. In South Africa, the first interracial national elections allowed Nelson Mandela to become that nation's first majority rules president, and the apartheid era, white minority government officially became a thing of the past. The war in the former Yugoslavia intensifies, particularly as Serbs pound Sarajevo. Israel signed a peace accord with the Palestinians and, later in the year, with Jordan. Aristide returned back to Haiti and helped form a government. Russia attacks Chechnya, which had been trying to secede.
