Trump Administration Continues Relentless Attacks on Mother Nature

The Trump administration is simply relentlessly bad. He had brought out the worst in Americans in virtually every way. Hatred, racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, anti-immigration, and general xenophobia are all on the rise. Hate groups seem emboldened, and are marching on American streets while seeming to show a sense of impunity. The United States has initiated trade wars with several different nations all at once, and has defined traditional allies as "foes." He has received worldwide condemnation for numerous actions and decisions, including his labeling of numerous countries in Africa and Central America as "shithole nations," his seeming reluctance to criticize neo-Nazi and other white supremacist hate groups, his dropping out the United States of the Iran nuclear deal, by threatening to wipe an entire nation off the map, and his dropping the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord. His tax plan, which is often better described as a tax scam, has clearly benefited the wealthy and powerful corporations, while hardly helping the average American out at all, and now, he is pushing for a new round of tax cuts, and actively exploring ways in which he can avoid going through Congress in order to do it. The reputation of the United States, which had taken a hit during the lead-up to the Iraq invasion and the questions regarding torture during the years of George W. Bush, have now taken a nosedive with this man in charge.

Through it all, we have to listen to him boasting about how he is a "very stable genius," going off on petty temper tantrums and betraying his extreme immaturity and idiocy with ridiculous tweets revealing that he cannot simply let anything go, and lying and making ludicrously false and misleading statements. In almost every situation, he has escalated things to the crisis point, before then appearing to diffuse everything to come across as the only one who could have done so. Those who support him believe him unquestioningly, but the rest of us see clearly that he escalated all of these situations in the first place.

Trump's record across the boards has been horrific, and done potentially irreparable harm to the once stellar reputation of the United States around the world. Yet, his environmental record has been particularly abysmal and embarrassing. Again, he pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord, the significance of which is that by so doing, the United States stands alone in the world as the only nation to officially be skeptical of climate change and deny the science behind it. Before that, Trump had made polluting streams and rivers easier, and he has consistently made polluting far more easy for corporations to not have to pay any price for. He encourages relentless offshore drilling for oil, and has taken land from our national parks. His administration is fighting California for having stronger environmental regulations than the rest of the nation. It seems that conservatives are all gung-ho for states rights, until those states practice this with things that conservatives generally disagree with.

So can it even be a surprise that his relentless attack on the environment continues? Here he goes, trying to get rid of Obama's fuel economy standards, and not to make them stronger, but to make them weaker. Of course.

The nightmare of the Trump years has been around now for the better part of two years, and it has gotten consistently worse. You better believe that this will continue to be the trend under someone like Trump, who should never have gotten anywhere near the White House to begin with.
