Some sad news to report, as former Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan died over the weekend. He also was the recipient of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize, and the chairman of the Elders.
I will always remember Annan for standing up to George W.Bush's aggressive push for an invasion of Iraq in the months and years after September 11th, and urged the United States and Great Britain not to invade without the approval of the United Nations.
Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, and served from 1997 until 2006. He was 80 years old.
