President Trump Suggests That ID is Required to Buy Groceries

By now, everyone has heard this latest ridiculous claim by the king of absurdities, lies, and obviously misleading statement.

Yes, President Trump actually suggested that you need ID to buy groceries at the local supermarket.

Of course, this is a ridiculous claim, and easily demonstrably untrue. All you have to do is go to the grocery store without an ID to find out just how comically untrue this really is.

Still, his supporters never hold him accountable, and so they are surely finding reasons why this statement was perhaps just yet another in the long list of things that he said where he misspoke (e seems to do that an awful lot, doesn't he?), or that it was taken out of context, or whatever other weak defenses they put up to apologize, essentially, for his ridiculous statements and lies.

Trump made this statement as an argument for why voting should require tougher ID measures.

Here is what he said during a rally for GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis’ gubernatorial bid in Tampa, Florida:

“You know, if you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID. You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID and you need your picture."

He went on to add:

“Only American citizens should vote in American elections. The time has come for voter ID like everything else.”
