Michael Moore is out with a new movie, and I will try to see it today.
I'm excited, because his films are always enjoyable. They are entertaining, and they also happen to be quite informative. That's a complete package in my book! Most likely, if past movies are any indication, this one will also be a call to action, and man, have we ever needed it more than we need it right now?
So, hopefully, I will be able to get a review of the movie out by tomorrow. In the meantime, it seemed like a good idea to post this blog with some recent videos of Michael Moore promoting his new film, and generally talking about the sorry state of this union at the moment.
Some things are consistent. In several of the videos, he predicts that Trump will win in 2020. On that, we agree, because as much as I would hate to see Trump get a second term, this has the feel of a country that seems, on the surface, to detest an unpopular president, but not enough to throw him out of office. Remember, we went through some of these same things before the 2004 election, and despite the horrific botching of his first term, George W. Bush actually won that election to get a second term in office. If anything, Trump is worse, although I still think that he could get enough support to win another term.
Another thing that he predicts, and I hope to God that he is wrong about this, as well, is that our democracy will, for all intents and purposes, be gone by 2020, especially if Republicans keep winning elections, which they consistently seem to be doing.
There is one video clip, at the very bottom, where Michael Moore and Donald Trump are seen together on Roseanne Barr's talkshow (did not even know that she had one), way back in 1998. That was a pretty fascinating video.
So, take a look and listen, because Michael Moore is always interesting. Remember, he warned that people needed to take Trump seriously, and he predicted that Trump would win when everyone laughed at what seemed, at the time, to be an impossible and unacceptable notion. Yet, that has come to pass.
We need to pay attention, and we can sure do worse than really listening to what Moore has to say about the state of things in our country presently.
One could make the case that this country ceased to be a true democracy worthy of the name years ago, although there's always the chance that we may eventually drop the pretense altogether. As for Trump's chances, it wouldn't surprise me. Although I'd bet my bottom dollar that he won't win the popular vote – nor come even close – it's a moot point since he obviously doesn't need to do so. And it's not as if the wastes of sperm and egg who voted for him are any less abjectly and willfully ignorant than they were in 2016. Sorry state of the union is right...
