New England Patriots
New England 38, Indianapolis 24 - Brady and the Pats jumped out to a hot start last night, taking a 24-3 lead by halftime, and making the Colts certainly look like an overwhelmed team. It was at that point, with the game seemingly decided, that the author of this blog went to bed, feeling utterly exhausted after a long day, feeling confident that there would be no epic comeback on this day.
There was not one, although the Colts did make it a bit interesting for a little while, scoring a touchdown in the third quarter, and then another one early in the fourth to get within a touchdown. But that was as close as Belichick, Brady and the Pats allowed the Colts to get. New England answered right away with a 6-play, 75 yard drive that was capped with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Brady to Josh Gordon. Slightly more than two minutes later, any remaining suspense ended when Patriots running back Sony Michel ran it in from 34 yards out for another touchdown, providing New England with a comfortable 38-17 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Indy was able to get another meaningless touchdown to make it look closer and more respectable, but the Pats earned themselves another convincing win yesterday.
Andrew Luck completed 38 of a rather incredible 59 pass attempts for 365 yards, with three touchdowns, although he also had two interceptions. Tom Brady got off to an incredible start, and had a solid game overall, completing 34 of 44 pass attempts for 341 yards. Like Luck, he also had three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Sony Michel also added a solid ground game for New England, rushing for 98 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.
One noteworthy item is that Tom Brady reached 300 career touchdowns, just another landmark in a storied career filled with stunning statistics that boggle the mind. And New England, a team that seemed to be struggling and entered the game against the Dolphins just four days earlier at 1-2 and facing the prospect of being three games out of first with a loss there, suddenly are hot at 3-2 with two consecutive wins, and merely half a game out of first place now.
