It has hardly been a secret that at worst, Trump either holds closeted white supremacist beliefs, or at best, caters to those who do.
After all, he announced his campaign by claiming that Mexicans were rapists and criminals, and championed the cause of a ban on all Muslims trying to gain entry into the country. He received widespread support from white supremacists groups, including David Duke, the Ku Klux Klan, and numerous self-identified "white nationalists."
Then came Charlottesville, and Trump's difficulties even in condemning outright Nazis and white supremacists. Not too much later, he referred to dozens of countries in Central America and Africa as "shithole nations." And last year, he posted a video for a few hours of one of his supporters clearly shouting out "white power."
Yet, many Trump loyalists and apologists insist that he is not really racist. But what I mentioned above are facts, and irrefutable. Not one of them is not widely known, or cannot be proven. There is video evidence for each and every one.
And now, with Trump having effectively urged violent supporters onto the Capitol building, we have learned that, once again, white supremacists figured quite prominently among the agitators. There were flags of white supremacist organizations and movements, and one man was wearing a "Camp Auchswitz: hoodie. I would imagine that he might defend himself by claiming that he was wearing that shirt as a warning against what he perceives to be fascism in the form of Joe Biden and the Democrats, if he defends himself from claims of anti-Semitism at all. But I wonder if he would go to alone to a large gathering of Jewish people wearing that same shirt? Or perhaps visit Israel as a tourist wearing it? My guess is that he would not, in the same way that whites (especially WASP's) who use language to describe non-whites (especially WASP's) to other whites would not do so in the company of non-whites, yet also claim not to be racist.
Again, many Trump supporters wave away dismissively any claims that he, or his movement, are racist. But the proof is in the pudding, and it certainly suggests that we still have a major, major racial problem in this country, and that Trump exploited that to the fullest in order to obtain, and try to keep, political power at the highest level.
Shame!
Below are the links to two articles that I used in writing this particular blog entry. The first is from CNN, and has pictures of the white supremacist presence during the Trump Capitol building putsch last week. The second is about that idiot in the "Camp Auschwitz" shirt being arrested. Please take a look a both by clicking on the links:
