⚽️ ⚽️ Paris Saint-Germain ⚽️ ⚽️
It has been a little while since I last wrote anything or updated about how PSG is doing.
Since the last time I posted anything about them, the team has struggled. In fact, they lost a bit of ground to Lille in the Ligue 1 standings, and need a bit of help if they are to try and win the championship again this year.
That said, it should be noted that they advanced past the French Cup semifinal by winning a shootout following a 2-2 draw with Montpelier after regulation and extra time had expired. They will play Monaco in the final later this week, on Wednesday the 19th.
Before that, however, they had a game against Reims, and really needed to find a way to win that if they wanted any realistic chance of winning the title again.
PSG earned the win, and they left no doubt with a convincing, methodical win.
Neymar got the team going with the first goal of the game in the 13th minute. 1-0, PSG.
Kylian Mbappé got the follow-up goal in the 24th minute, extending the lead. 2-0, PSG.
Marquinhos broke through in the 68th minute, making the lead nearly insurmountable. 3-0, PSG.
Moise Kean netted the game's final goal, ending the scoring and icing the game in favor of the Parisians. 4-0, PSG.
On top of it, Yunis Abdelhamid was given a red card for Reims.
It was a lopsided affair in favor of PSG, who managed to pull within one point, once again, of first place Lille. Lille has 80 points after 37 games played, while PSG has 79 after the same number of games.
PSG earned another solid win this weekend. Yes, they controlled the ball for two-thirds of the game, had some great passing, and ultimately defeated Metz, 3-1. It was a crucial win in a game that PSG absolutely needed in order to keep their hopes of another Ligue 1 title alive. Lille had a chance to almost ice the race, but had to settle for a scoreless tie against Saint-Étienne instead. Lille will next visit Angers, which you might figure they would win. PSG plays Monaco in the French Cup Final later this week, before finishing Ligue 1 play next weekend against Brest.
It should be noted that Monaco has 77 points after 37 games, and I believe that they swept PSG, so they might technically still have a shot at winning the championship, although it seems highly unlikely.
It should be an interesting finish.
