Pope Francis has died. He was 88.
The first pope from Latin America, the Argentinian felt like a different kind of approach almost right away. Considerably more progressive than past popes had been, he became quite popular. It felt to me like he lent the Catholic Church a very different, more modern feel.
While I admittedly was never the most religious person, I decided to take my son to go see Pope Francis II when he came for a visit to Philadelphia back in 2015. It was a day to remember. And while I cannot say that I had anything resembling a true religious experience, I nevertheless always found him kind and inspiring. Closer to being a model of what the Catholic Pope perhaps should be than many prior popes, or the Church itself more generally, had been.
Today, it seemed appropriate to remember Pope Francis II on this day in particular.
Below are pictures from that memorable day visiting Philadelphia to see Pope Francis II.
Rest in Peace, Pope Francis II.
