My girlfriend and I have Fridays usually to spend together. It is the rare mutual day off, occurring once a week, so it is important to try and make the most of it, and not waste it.
That means it is important to try and make good use of the day, and make the most of it. Do something which we hopefully both will enjoy.
At first, we spoke about going to the beach. But I reminded her that after our visit last year, we both had mutually agreed that it might be better to wait until after beach season - the summer - is over. To go early in the autumn, when it is still hot, but not too hot and, even more importantly, not nearly as crowded as it seems to systematically get during the summer season, of course.
So we decided to do something a bit different than we usually do. She brought up the Somerset County 4-H Fair, and that sounded good to me. At the very least, it would be something new which we had not done before.
Mostly, it was a makeshift village with tents everywhere. No rides or anything, but mostly educational. I thought it would have been great to bring my son to this maybe ten or more years ago, when he was still little. I think he would have gotten a decent amount out of the visit back then.
As it was, it reminded my girlfriend of her childhood, growing up in a rural village in southeastern Poland during the communist era. Farms are still everywhere, and a strong presence there today. But they were even more dominant back then.
It was a good visit. We both got gyro sandwiches, and both enjoyed the displays of the various farm animals, including bees.
Of course, I took some pictures, and will share them here now.
There was a fair passport which some kid left behind. Of course I left it where it was, if the kid remembered and got it back, it would be there for him or her. However, it seemed like a good idea to take some pictures of it, as well.
Enjoy.
