Just a few days ago, I posted something about the decline of intelligence and simple decency in our modern world. It does not please me to talk about it, although it feels like something which we really should look into and discuss.
Well, here is another video which examines something very similar. Basically, it elaborates on how our collective society seems to have deteriorated.
Watch this video and see what you think.
And remember, please feel free to share your thoughts here, by all means!
Top 10 Ways Society Has Gone To Sh!t
By and large I found myself in agreement with this list, though not without a few caveats. In no particular order:
ReplyDelete– I for one am a big fan of remote work. Perhaps that speaks to my antisocial if not outright misanthropic tendencies, but in many ways I feel that the pros outweigh the cons. I recently reached the three-year anniversary at my work-from-home job, and in many ways it's the best job I've ever had: no physical commute (which is great in general but especially in winter, and which saves me a small fortune in gas and wear and tear on my car), no having to deal with petty micromanagement, and no need to be located in a major metropolis.
– I'm tired of the implication that the few politicians in this country who advocate for things like universal healthcare and holding corporations to higher standards and greater supervision are somehow "extremist". In Europe, the American model is the one that's regarded as "radical" and "extreme", and I happen to agree with that.
– Although disinformation was mentioned, I consider that to be symptomatic of a much deeper problem in this country: throngs of willfully, irredeemably stupid people whose intellectual laziness is such that there's simply no reasoning with them. I don't have any delusions about being superlatively bright, but I'm not blissfully unaware of my own limitations, and realize that no set of beliefs and values holds the answers to all of humanity's problems, and this of course includes my beliefs and values. But when tens of millions of people not only vote for Trump once but repeatedly, and worship him with such cult-like, unshakable fervor, something's horribly, HORRIBLY wrong. Which leads me to my last point...
– When so many people enthusiastically and unquestioningly support an emotionally-stunted man-child with such a massive, high-maintenance ego, and with such an unabashedly totalitarian agenda, it's essentially game over. This isn't something that's going to be fixed in the foreseeable future, even in the event that there's a widespread backlash against Trump and his enablers in the near future.
