If there was one year which I felt was at least arguably the most fun and accomplished, if you will, year of my young adulthood, it would have to be 1996. There were many reasons for this. It was arguably my best year in terms of a social life ever. I went out socially with someone literally almost every day. Through a combination of luck and effort, it was one of the best years in terms of traveling that I had ever had, especially to that point, and the very best (probably even to date) within the North American continent. There were a ton of events which I went to, including both concerts and sporting events, most notably Lollapalooza, Pearl Jam at Randall's Island, seeing Brazil versus the FIFA All-Stars (featuring the best players from around the globe, and seeing the Chicago Bulls, just two months and change before they would complete their historical season.
Yet, one of the things I am most proud of was the week in which my then girlfriend (eventual wife, and not ex-wife) participated in Habitat for Humanity with our college. We went to York, Pennsylvania, and spent a week helping to build lower income housing for disadvantaged people, something which I believed in, and which made me feel good about myself. Still does, when it comes to mind presently. Also, it was a bunch of young people together for a week, and most of us were friends, so it was generally and genuinely fun.
Thought I had posted a blog entry about this before. But when I encountered somebody's picture of us as a group (presumably take on the day we arrived, if memory serves correctly), it dawned on me that I never actually did publish anything about it. So today, I am remedying that with this particular blog entry to remember it by.
