Many years ago, some Trump supporters would answer my question of why they voted for Trump by saying that he would prove entertaining.
Now admittedly, I never personally found him entertaining. He's not intelligent, not funny, not interesting. But that's just a matter of taste, perhaps.
Still, entertainment value is, frankly, not a reason to vote for a leader of a country. Thinking about entertainment value while running a country just is not responsible leadership. And let's keep in mind that Trump has mentioned - repeatedly - some things about having good television ratings during his presidency. It sure seems like he believes that entertaining people - mostly his base - is a huge part of his job.
So maybe they are still entertained, despite well over a decade of this tiresome nonsense. And maybe they are convinced that Trump is actually a genius playing secret mind games with enemies.
However, there are points where you have to concede that his conduct is not only undignified or not worthy of the office of the presidency. There comes a point where you have to admit that he sounds, frankly, insane. Literally out of his mind.
If there were any doubts left, they have to end with this latest social media post. On Easter Sunday, the president who was recently compared to Jesus Christ (and he seems to like that comparison) sent a social media post laced with profanities and which sounds completely and utterly insane. He promised destruction on an epic level, and closed out his message by praising Allah.
Literally.
By now, we all know that Trump seems to make a point of pissing people off. He insults allies, threatens to invade other nations (like Iran and Venezuela, obviously, but also Cuba, Colombia, Panama, and Palestine) and undermines the independence of others (Canada). He refers to dozens of countries in Africa and Latin America as "shithole nations." He sends heartwarming Christmas sentiments to "liberal scum." And now, he is mocking the Islamic faith.
What a guy.
Let's keep in mind that this threatening message was sent by him on Easter Sunday. Again, it makes him sound completely unhinged, to the point where now, we have to really start giving some serious consideration to the possibility that this man is insane.
Keep in mind that this war seems to be Trump's way of distracting from all of the bad news that has been hurting his popularity here at home, particularly the Epstein Files.
There's no "secret genius" behind any of this. Sometimes, you have to call a spade a spade. And so I'm going to say what we all suspect. Trump is insane.
And no, I am not trying to be shocking or funny or provocative for the sake of being provocative.
The most difficult, scary part is acknowledging it. But this time, it feels like he's gone too far for anyone with an ounce of objectivity or common sense to doubt it. Yes, he is a mad man, and that is a scary thought, since he is the leader of the most powerful country in the world.
Now, it's time to give serious thought to what we as a nation are going to do about it.
