What A Headline!

This is a picture of a magnet that was being sold at Strand's Book Store in New York City a few years ago. No, I did not buy it, but I liked it and took a picture, which I am sharing here now.

But that changed this weekend, when I read something that a British writer said about Trump. Yes, Nate White had a most hilarious response to the question, "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?"

It goes on, and is fairly lengthy. It is not a quick two or three line read, like that quote from Thomas. But here are some short quotes of White's description of Trump (my personal favorite, that Trump is a "Jabba the Hut of privilege," was something that I already used in the title of this particular blog entry):

"He is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit."

Every now and then, you get something which perfectly encapsulates the times, or something major.  With the Trump presidency, it has happened a few times, when people have described the paradoxes. And until now, it always seemed to be foreigners who got it perfectly.

The first one I can recall was a journalist from New Zealand, who just absolutely hit the nail on the head regarding the essence of Donald Trump. This following description still remains (in my eyes) the standard bearer for serious, honest, and unflinching descriptions of Trump that I had heard of. That would be Paul Thomas of the New Zealand Herald and here is what he said back in 2015, well before Trump's rise to the presidency was a reality, and looked anything but a foregone conclusion:

“Trump personifies everything the rest of the world despises about America: casual racism, crass materialism, relentless self-aggrandizement, vulgarity on an epic scale. He is the Ugly American in excelsis.”

Then there was a British writer, Nate White, who wrote a most hilarious response to the question, "Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?"  It is actually quite lengthy. However, some of what he said stands out to me. My personal favorite is when he describes Trump is a "Jabba the Hut of privilege." That is both funny and smacks of the truth. Here is another quick, humorous part of his description:

"He is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit."

Yup. That indeed is Donald Trump. A journalist from New Zealand got the most serious, apt description of Trump I know of, and a British writer was able to describe Trump's complete lack of worth with wit and humor.

But finally, we have an American who also finally nailed the paradox that defines Donald Trump with a headline. This headline would be worthy of a spoof publication by The Onion, or something like that. Instead, it is a real headline, and it underscores exactly why there is no question left that this guy is a certifiable nutcase. We literally have a stark raving lunatic in the Oval Office, with his finger on the button (we all know what button I'm referring to, right?).

Take a look at this headline from Ryan Bort of Rolling Stone (see link to article below):
